Presenter FAQ

As a presenter, do I need to register for the conference?

Yes, all presenters must register for the AASL National Conference. If you are a co-presenter, you can register as a presenter only. This allows you to attend your session and present but does not allow you to attend any other sessions or to roam the exhibit hall.

Will AASL cover any other conference-related costs for presenters?

No, AASL does not cover any other conference-related expenses for presenters. As a non-profit, AASL is unable to provide assistance for travel or lodging expenses to presenters. Presenters are responsible for their own travel and lodging expenses, including all taxes and fees on said travel and lodging expenses.

What does a presentation room look like?

Each room will be set theater style and will be equipped with sound, a screen, a projector, a podium, and a microphone. You are expected to bring your own laptop with your presentation slides loaded onto your laptop. It is strongly suggested that you bring a backup of your presentation. If you have specific requirements, please contact James Major at jmajor@ala.org

Rooms will have access to WiFi, but we cannot guarantee a strong connection. If any parts of your presentation require an Internet connection, it is recommended that you prepare accordingly. AASL will not provide a wired connection for concurrent programming.

What is the format of my presentation?

All sessions are 50 minutes in length. Q&A should be factored into this time. At the beginning of your session, please make sure that you clearly explain the learning objectives of your presentation. It is also helpful to provide contact information for your attendees to follow up with you after the presentation.

How do I find out when I am scheduled to present?

All lead presenters will be notified of their session’s date and time by mid-August. If you are not the lead presenter, please reach out to them for this information. The conference website will also have a complete listing of sessions where you may find the date and time assigned for your presentation. After the schedule is published in August, you may search for your presentation date/time/room assignment.

Will my presentation be recorded?

Certain sessions have been designated for recording from the conference for virtual attendee viewing after the conference. Please review the schedule to determine if your session has been designated for recording. No additional preparation is required for recorded sessions.

What if I need technical help during my presentation?

Each session will have a room monitor. Please notify the room monitor of any issues. Your room monitor will notify the AV staff if the presenter is having technical issues. If a room monitor is not present, AASL staff and AV staff will be located in the hallways. AASL staff will have red vests and will be able to find technical support for your session.

Can AASL provide handouts for my presentation?

Due to the number of presentations, we are unable to make photocopies of any presentation materials, either onsite or prior to the conference.

Do you provide slide templates for presenters?

Yes! A template is available.

How can I promote my session on social media?

Yes! Let’s work together to create some buzz about your participation in this conference! Please promote your own presentation as well as the conference in general to your colleagues and social networks.

What should I do when I arrive for the conference?

Check in and pick-up your name badge at the conference registration desk. Check the website or app to verify your session time/room. Last minute changes are always possible.
