With the release of the 2nd edition of the National School Library Standards, school librarians have an opportunity to enhance their instructional role by using the AASL Standards crosswalks to support collaborative assessment. This session will provide practical strategies for integrating AASL’s crosswalks with academic content standards to create holistic assessments that effectively measure learner growth. Participants will explore ways to align library instruction with school-wide learning goals, develop competency-based assessments, and foster meaningful partnerships with educators to enhance learning outcomes.

Amanda Hunt—widely known as TheNextGenLibrarian—is a dedicated middle school library media specialist serving grades 6–8 in Texas, where she also holds the role of Secondary Lead Librarian for her district. With over 16 years of experience as a school librarian across both elementary and secondary campuses, Amanda brings a deep background in education and social work to her practice.
She is actively involved in professional leadership and advocacy, currently serving as the secretary/treasurer for the Texas Library Association's (TLA) Leadership Round Table and on the ALA Council for Education. She is the co-chair of the TxASL Social Media Committee, a past Councilor for the Texas Association of School Librarians (TxASL), and a current member of the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) Standards Committee, contributing to the upcoming 2025 edition.
Amanda has served on numerous state and national reading and award committees, including the Margaret A. Edwards Award Committee (YALSA), the Amazing Audiobooks Committee (ALA), and as both a member and chair of the Texas Maverick Graphic Novel Reading List Committee. Her innovative work has earned her recognition as a TLA TxASL Media and Visual Presence (MVP) Honoree in 2021 and 2023, as well as a two-time winner of the TLA Branding Iron Award for Digital Only Communications (2022, 2024).
An accomplished speaker and trainer, Amanda has keynoted both the New Hampshire School Librarians Conference and the Georgia Library Media Association Conference. She is a Google Certified Trainer, Apple Teacher, and Adobe Creative Educator Innovator who is passionate about empowering educators and students through technology, literacy, and creativity.
